Brasília Airport tests process automation to become an international e-commerce hub

A new partnership between Infraframerica and Sinerlog creates conditions for the Federal District to play a greater role in Brazilian foreign trade

Inframerica, Brasília Airport manager, and Sinerlog, a cross commerce technology company, signed an unprecedented partnership to implement a courier operation at the Terminal, which is considered the third largest in Brazil in terms of number of passengers and the only one in the country with direct flights to all capitals, in addition to several cities abroad.

The new cross-border technology proposed by Sinerlog will not only speed up customs clearance at the Cargo Terminal, but will also protect, orders and e-commerce operations through insurance that was previously non-existent in the Brazilian market. According to Fábio Baracat, CEO of Sinerlog, the solution can reduce the time for receiving orders from abroad from 10 to 5 days in the Midwest, North, Northeast and in the state of Minas Gerais.

Digitization of foreign trade

Sinerlog has developed a platform that unifies processes and more efficiently and securely integrates the various players in the foreign trade chain, simplifying the stages of purchase, collection, storage and delivery of goods to the final consumer.

The technology will also feature digital wallet applications, integration with marketplaces and logistics operators, APIs for open innovation, interoperability of means of payment, seller authentication, issuing of electronic invoices and tools that optimize compliance with tax obligations. It is also possible to extract insights from the analysis of the data generated by the operation.

“This partnership with Infraframerica is strategic for our growth”, explains Baracat. Sinerlog earned BRL 14 million last year and, for 2023, expects to reach the target of BRL 106 million.

Opportunities for the DF

According to Fierce Retail, 82% of Brazilian consumers have already shopped abroad over the internet. This audience is expected to move around US$ 2.85 billion by the end of 2023.

Shipments arriving in Brazil mostly pass through distribution centers located mainly in Curitiba, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In Paraná alone, around 500 and 700 thousand objects are received every day, which has led to a logistical overload in these places.

“We see this project with Sinerlog as an excellent opportunity to expand the logistical capacity of our Cargo Terminal”, explains Juan Djedjeian, Vice President of Inframerica. “The cross-border e-commerce market has shown consistent expansion over the years and Brasília Airport has a strategic position to become a major distribution hub”, he explains.

Regulatory changes

Last year, the Federal Revenue of Brazil published Normative Instruction 2124/22, bringing clearer rules for electronic commerce and to inhibit tax evasion and informality in the sector. Fábio Baracat explains that the change puts the market under the same rules, opening up space for investments with legal certainty and for the use of innovations such as the platform offered by Sinerlog.

“We are optimistic about the role we can play in boosting the sector, providing global retail with a solution that brings more efficiency to operations”, explains Baracat. “We are well positioned with a product that uniformly delivers all the tools necessary to transact in global e-commerce, without having to hire other resources”, highlights the executive.
